Guide to refusals and appeals

The 'Guide to refusals and appeals' covers the different stages of refusals of applications, and appeals to IMB decisions.

Refusals relate to authorisations, licences, approvals or certificates issued by the IMB. The refusals procedure applies to refusals to grant, refusals to vary, compulsory variations, or suspensions and revocations.

Applicants can submit an appeal following an IMB objection to a clinical trial or investigation. It is also possible to appeal classification decisions.

The guideline document outlines the procedures the IMB follows to ensure consistent and fair processes and decisions that protect public and animal health, based on the best available information. Applicants are given the right to be heard, including the right to make written or oral representations to the Advisory Committees or the Board of the IMB. They will receive copies of all relevant documentation which is considered by the committees or Board and are kept informed of the outcome at all stages of the process.

This document has been updated (February 2013) to include a link to the Complaints section of our website. This replaces a reference to our Service Charter document, which has been withdrawn.
