Reporting a Veterinary Medicine Side Effect
Reporting a Veterinary Medicine Side Effect
The IMB monitors the safety and effectiveness of veterinary medicines on an ongoing basis. Our monitoring system is based on reports of suspected adverse reactions.
An adverse reaction is a harmful or unintentional side effect experienced by an animal following the use of a medicine. The IMB also monitors harmful or unintended effects in humans exposed to veterinary medicines.
How do I report a side effect?
Members of the public, such as pet owners and farmers, can report a suspected side effect in a number of ways:
Give the details to your vet or the pharmacist who supplied the product. They can then notify the IMB.
Report side effects directly by filling in the adverse reaction
online form
.
A
downloadable version
of the form is also available, which can be filled in manually and sent to the IMB by e-mail to
imbvetadr@imb.ie
or by freepost.
If you require any further information about reporting an adverse reaction to a veterinary medicine you can also contact the IMB’s Veterinary Medicines Department on (01) 676 4971 or by emailing
imbvetadr@imb.ie
. Further information is also available from the
veterinary medicines
section of our website.
