Consumer Information & Advice
Consumer Information & Advice
The IMB aims to
promote public health
by communicating the risks and benefits of medicines and medical devices to those who use them.
We also highlight the importance of using healthcare products safely. Consumers should always read the supplied product information and follow the instructions provided.
In addition, those who use healthcare products should always purchase them from a recognised and trusted source. There are very real dangers associated with purchasing medicines in particular through unapproved sources such as the internet.
With this in mind, the IMB has published a series of
information leaflets
that can be downloaded from our website. If you prefer, you can order printed copies by emailing your request to
brochures@imb.ie
or by calling 01 676 4971. An
order form
is also available and a completed form can be sent by email or fax.

Information for Patients on Safety Monitoring of Medicines
This
document
explains the updated legislation for monitoring the safety of medicines (Pharmacovigilance) which came into effect in Ireland and across the EU in July 2012 and the impact of this legislation for patients and consumers. A key aspect of the new legislation is the important role of patients and consumers in contributing to the strengthened system of pharmacovigilance. This
document
explains the changes to the reporting of side effects (also known as adverse reactions) and the steps a patient or consumer can take to report them.
