02 May 2012
Agreement is part of enhanced use of intelligence in the fight against doping in sport
The Irish Medicines Board (IMB) and the Irish Sports Council have signed a Memorandum of Understanding that will formalise the sharing of information and intelligence in an effort to protect Irish athletes and to combat the illegal use of medicinal products.
In recent years the two state agencies have co-operated and shared intelligence in the area of anti-doping. This Memorandum of Understanding places this relationship on a formal basis and signals that it will have a more prominent role in the general battle against doping in sport.
