Irish Medicines Board Publishes 2012 Annual Report

16 September 2013

Categories: News

The Irish Medicines Board (IMB) today published its annual report for 2012 which shows another year of significant activity for the national regulatory authority. As in previous years, the IMB is concerned with the consistent levels of counterfeit and illegal medicines being detained year on year and is warning consumers of the dangers of purchasing medicines from unauthorised sources. 2012 also saw extensive preparatory work completed by the IMB in advance of the commencement of the Health Act 2013 which gave the IMB responsibility for the establishment, publication and subsequent maintenance of a list of interchangeable medicines.

According to Pat O’Mahony, Chief Executive, all areas and departments of the IMB achieved significant work outputs and progress during the year. “The key activities for 2012 highlighted the sizeable programme of work which was completed across the organisation to deliver on the IMB’s primary remit – the protection of public and animal health through the regulation of medicines, medical devices and other health products. The range of our activity during the year highlights the expanding nature of our work across a diverse and constantly changing life sciences sector.”
